Myself and Debbie were together almost 20 years before we finally said our “I do’s” at the Lord Bagenal hotel in Leighlinbridge Carlow. We didn’t have a grand proposal but the day itself made up for it.

Both originally from Dublin but living in Carlow for about 17 years, the decision about where to have our wedding was an easy one.

Though we looked at a couple of other venues there was no competition really.

We have always enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere at the Lord Bagenal and as we were having both our ceremony & reception there, we wanted it to be somewhere we had a connection to.

Coupled with that, from the time we enquired about the wedding we got a sense that the staff there were genuinely happy and enthusiastic about hosting our wedding.

We spent the night before the wedding in the hotel along with our parents and bridesmaids. The day itself was fantastic. It was a beautiful sunny crisp December morning. We spent the morning in our room sipping Prosecco with our bridesmaids watching our guests arrive as we were getting our hair and makeup done. We were very lucky to get a local hairdresser (Tracey Lawler) to do our hair. When we enquired in August about booking her for December she wanted to know what year. As luck would have it though, she was available on the day. With hindsight we were probably a little too relaxed about our planning. We lost count of the number of times that people said to us “God girls, you’re very relaxed” when making appointments but we managed to pull it off in the end. We opted not to have a professional photographer as we wanted the day to be as relaxed as possible so Debbie’s brother kindly did the honours.

As it was December the hotel was decorated for Christmas so it was really festive. I think it’s fair to say neither of us expected to have as much fun as we did. It really was a fantastic day! What really added to it were the compliments we got the next day from our guests. Everyone had a ball. The band, beat club were fantastic. The dance floor was never empty. We’d love to do it all over again. It really was a perfect day.
